gold's gym health fitness training center chapter 11 bankruptcy protection

Gold’s Gym filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Monday, becoming the latest business to pursue restructuring amid coronavirus-related business disruptions.

We want to be 100 percent clear that Gold’s Gym is not going out of business,” President and CEO Adam Zeitsiff said in a press release. “The brand is strong, and we’ll continue to innovate and grow our digital business, our licensing program and our global footprint as we focus on serving our millions of members across the world.

It said the bankruptcy filing would affect only company-owned locations, which represent about 10% of the company’s roughly 700 locations around the world.

“To be clear, the filing should not impact our licensing division, it is not associated with any of our locally-owned franchise gyms, nor will it prevent us from continuing to support our system of nearly 700 gyms around the world. While the COVID-19 pandemic certainly impacted our company-owned gym operations, we expect the filing will have no further impact on current operations.”

A security guard is shot and killed after telling customer to put on a face mask

Update – Breaking

In this Friday, May 1, 2020 photo, employees stand outside the Family Dollar as police investigate a shooting that took place at the store in Flint, Mich.

A security guard at a Family Dollar store in Flint, Michigan, was shot and killed after telling a customer to wear a state-mandated face mask, police said.

Calvin Munerlyn, 43, died at a local hospital after he was shot in the head Friday, said Michigan State Police Lt. David Kaiser.

The shooter and a second suspect remain at large, Kaiser told CNN on Monday.

Witnesses at the store told police that Munerlyn got into a verbal al
tercation with a woman because she was not wearing a mask, said Genesee County prosecutor David Leyton. Surveillance video confirms the incident, Leyton said.

Two men entered the store and one of them yelled at Munerlyn about disrespecting his wife, Leyton said. The other man then shot the security guard.

Family Dollar did not respond to a request for comment.

Uber May Require All Drivers and Riders to Wear Face Masks in the U.S.

Update – Transportation

Uber Requires Drivers and Riders to Wear Masks App Phone Company Rideshare

After suspending its shared ride option in the U.S. and Canada in order to limit the spread of COVID-19, Uber is anticipating a restart to its ridesharing business by requiring drivers and riders to wear face masks when using the platform in the U.S. Executives approved the new policy in a meeting last week and plan to introduce it in the coming weeks.

Once the policy is enforced, Uber drivers and delivery workers will be required to wear a face mask or a face covering, like a mask or bandana, whether or not they have received a company-provided mask.

Uber, like other travel companies, is preparing how it will return back to normal as the country begins to reopen for business. New York University epidemiology professor Robyn Gershon explains that “absolutely positively everyone should be wearing a mask” in a vehicle and believes that new initiatives, such as plastic barriers or divisions, should be employed to protect both drivers and passengers. “We’ll communicate updates directly to users when ready, but in the meantime we continue to urge all riders and drivers to wear masks or face coverings when using Uber,” said Andrew Hasbun, Uber’s head of safety communications.

Trump’s statement was in response to a submitted video question from a Fox News viewer about why he uses harsh rhetoric when dealing with the press corps.

“They always said, ‘No one got treated worse than Lincoln,’” Trump said, while pointing up to Lincoln’s statue, “I believe I am treated worse.”

On Sunday, Trump called the reporters’ questions during the press briefings “disgraceful,” without specifying which journalists he was talking about.

The president added that if he was “kind” to the press he would be “walked off the stage” and went on to say that “94% to 95%” of the press is “hostile.

Uber Eats to exit several countries as part of rationalization strategy

Update – News

Hungry? UberEATS delivery launches in Buffalo

Uber Technologies Inc. UBER, -4.68% announced in a filing Monday that it planned to discontinue operations for its Eats food delivery business in seven countries as of June 4. Those markets are the Czech Republic, Egypt, Honduras, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Uruguay and Ukraine. This action won’t affect the company’s ride-hailing business in those regions.

Bernstein analyst Mark Shmulik wrote that Uber’s move “should be a positive signal to investors that the company is heading in the right direction here” and he expects “this is likely only Round 1 of ongoing efforts.” Shmulik will be watching for further announcements, which he thinks could focus on Europe or Latin America.
