In a statement, the Ministry of Transport, the CNESST, and the Institut national de santé publique du Québec (INSPQ) outlined their recommendations to the public and reassured everyone that public transit is still safe to use. The is also “[looking] into measuresthat could be implemented to protect customers and employees post lockdown.”
The Ministry and its partners outlined the following recommendations that they say all public transit users should follow when on the bus, metro, or train:
- “keep your distance;
- “wear a face covering on buses and subway cars as well as in places where physical distancing is not always possible;
- “cover your mouth and nose with your elbow when sneezing and wash your hands regularly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds;
- “don’t take public transit if you have symptoms associated with COVID-19.”
The Ministry also ask that employers allow employees to work from home and offer flexible schedules whenever possible to mitigate public transit crowding at rush hours.
