Conor McGregor welcomes Kim Kardashian to his family

Update – Who’d have thought it.

Conor McGregor welcomes Kim Kardashian to his family as he finds they’re ‘related and descendants of Scottish royalty’

BELIEVE it or not, Conor McGregor is a distant relative of Kim Kardashian

The UFC superstar, 31 – who retired for a third time earlier this month– appeared to enjoy the news and tweeted his approval, saying: “Welcome to the family.”

McGregor tweeted his approval of the link to the Kardashians

Kardashian’s mum Kris Jenner has ancestry from Scotland and is related to outlaw and folk hero Robert Roy MacGregor — a huge figure and member of one of Scotland’s oldest clans.

The rebel and cattle thief died in 1734 aged 63, was part of the Jacobite rising of 1689 and took part in the Battle of Glen Shiel in 1719.

Nobleman MacGregor was depicted in the 1995 film Rob Roy, starring Liam Neeson.

According to the Daily Record, that gives the pair a link to legendary first King of Scots Kenneth MacAlpin.

Kardashian’s sister Kourtney named her daughter Penelope Scotland Disick in 2012 — an apparent acknowledgement to their heritage north of the Hadrian’s Wall.

CAN’T PICT YOUR FAMILY

The Kardashians are famously proud of their Armenian heritage on the paternal side and Kim, 38, condemned denials of the Armenian Genocide in 2016.

McGregor has spoken before about his ancestry — suggesting it makes him the Notorious we know him for today.

In 2016, he tweeted: “I am simply doing what my ancestors were doing long before me.”

McGregor hails from an Irish branch of the MacGregors and has spoken before of his pride in his heritage.

It’s something that is in me, it is something that my ancestors have done before me and I am simply carrying my family’s name with pride.Conor McGregor

He said in 2015: “My family originated from the Scottish highlands, they fought for their independence.

“It’s something that runs in my family’s history, I’ve become obsessed with that a little bit.

“It reiterates to me that I am on the correct path my family was on before me.

There’s A Taco Window Right Near The Lachine Canal With All Your Summertime Picnic Needs

Update – Tacos, and nachos, and churros, oh my!

Article Featured Image

Nothing can stop Montrealers from getting their summertime snacks. Faced with the closure of dine-in service, El Gordo in Little Burgundy has converted into a cute little taco takeout window right on rue Notre-Dame ouest, just a few short blocks from the popular green banks of the Lachine Canal. The window is open every day of the week.

The “Tacos on the Street” counter opened in mid-May and the restaurant confirmed to MTL Blog that it will continue to serve customers even after dining rooms open in the Montreal area on June 22.

El Gordo plans to reopen its dining room, too, but hasn’t set a definitive date.

In the meantime, passersby can choose from a tasty selection of menu items.

In addition to mouthwatering tacos, the El Gordo window serves nachos, guacamole, and churros.

For $3, customers can also pick up a lemonade to complement their savoury meals.

According to the latest Facebook post from the restaurant, takeout Corona and Modelo beers cost $6.

The window is open from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., Monday to Thursday, 2:00 p.m. to midnight Friday, 12:00 p.m. to midnight Saturday, and 12:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Sunday.

It closes when it rains.

El Gordo isn’t the only Sud-Ouest institution to turn to summertime takeout service, either.

After customers scarf down their tacos and nachos, they can head west along the canal to the Riverside Bar, which has opened a special ice cream truck on a lawn on the north side of the waterway.

The bar itself is still closed (there’s no word yet on when bars can reopen), but the truck has become a popular hangout spot in a particularly beautiful stretch of the canal next to the ruins of the old Canada Malting plant.

The truck serves ice cream from Thursday to Sunday.

Get all the details on the El Gordo taco window below!

Vintage-Looking Sneakers & Colorways Are Trending, Here’s Why

Update – Footwear

Instagram mood boards are quick to identify — and sometimes even start — trends in footwear and fashion. With much of their time spent trawling the internet for what is cool and some accounts having followings upwards of 100,000, it makes sense that these mood boards wield a certain level of influence.

One such trend — evident across mood boards ranging from hidden.ny to archived.dreams, and the fledgling hartcopy — is Instagram’s obsession with vintage or retro-inspired sneakers with a very subtle, white/off-white color scheme. Though the aforementioned accounts have all been posting sneakers in that respective colorway for months now, the trend flown under the radar somewhat.

hidden.ny, run by a graphic designer based in New York, tells Highsnobiety that the trend was born out of the desire for anti-hype. “With such an oversaturated sneaker market, the cream sneaker craze is directly influenced by the growing desire for vintage, hard to find sneakers,” they write over Instagram DM. “The natural tones represent tasteful neutrality, the same way the aged patina of a vintage Rolex increases its desirability.”

Many of the sneakers shared on the Instagram mood boards are actually vintage. Nike Dunks, Air Force 1s, and Jordans from the ’80s, ’90s and ’00s populate the pages, however, the color palette being shared is not unique to that era. There are plenty of sneakers available now in cream, white, or off-white that fit the description.

Contemporary designs, such as the ’70s-inspired New Balance 327, have been released in cream colorways. So, too, have relaunched classic, such as the No Vacancy Inn x New Balance 650. Then there’s always StockX or other resale platforms, where you can “dig through the archives” so to say, and buy a pair of sneakers that was released ten to 15 years ago and fits the aesthetic.

The muted, cream-tinged colorways are definitely a throwback and why customizers such as philllllthy — who makes your retro Jordans look like they dropped in the ’80s — are becoming so popular. Hidden adds that “faded laces, neutral tones, and chipped leather represent [a certain type of] craftsmanship” that doesn’t exist anymore, as supply chains and mass production have made artisans in the sneaker industry rare.

Highsnobiety’s Tim Suen, who also co-founded hartcopy, believes that  Justin Saunders’ JJJJound was also a big catalyst in the vintage cream movement. “Saunders has used that exact color scheme across a range of his products,” Tim says. “Over time, people caught on and aspired for something more minimal than today’s colorful sneakers. You also have to give Saunders credit for being the OG moodboard.”

STM buses make the change to summer schedule

Update – Transportation

STM buses make the change to summer schedule

We’re still five days away from the official start of summer but the STM’s bus schedules are now in summertime mode.

Effective as of yesterday, the STM has made “minor changes” to its schedule which is adjusted every three to four months.

An STM employee confirmed over the phone that some buses may show up a bit earlier as certain routes are designed specifically to stop at schools for children. Since it’s summertime, buses will now have different routes.

The employee says a bus that normally goes through three or four school zones will now have extra time as a result and the transit company always recommends to check bus times before leaving.

While the STM has officially made the leap to summertime hours, the company stressed that changes are “slight adjustments.”

Due to the pandemic, paper planibus schedules will no longer be distributed and the STM said riders are best off using the real-time tracker to get updates on how close or far away their desired bus is.

“Get our best estimate and follow your bus in real time,” says the STM website.
