Gervonta’ Tank’ Davis reportedly isn’t happy with his promoter Floyd Mayweather Jr suddenly taking an interest in training his rival Devin Haney, who is signed with Matchroom Boxing.

If this is a ploy by Mayweather to get Tank Davis to take his career more seriously, it could backfire on him.

Instead of it motivating Tank, it might push him away, resulting in the Baltimore native moving on when his contract with Mayweather Promotions expires.

WBA lightweight champion Davis (23-0, 22 KOs) responded said this week that he won’t be training in Las Vegas, Nevada now.

Tank Davis, 25, has taken some heat for twice missing weight for his fights against Yuriorkis Gamboa and Francisco Fonseca, as well as his new hobby of riding motorcycles. Some believe that Tank Davis lacks the dedication to train year-round.

At this point, it’s not looking good for Mayweather Promotions that Tank Davis will re-sign with them when his contract ends. Unless things turn around, Davis may elect to move on, which would be a considerable blow to Mayweather Promotions.

Is Tank Davis Better Off Moving On?

All good things come to an end, and it might be time for Gervonta to break free and fly once his contract with Mayweather Promotions ends.

Recently, Mayweather has been showing a lot of interest in Haney in training him and taking him around in his jet and showing him his massive mansion in Las Vegas.

“You want to be the best, I’m gonna show you how,” Mayweather said to Haney.

“I’ve been doing well by my lonely…..both of their ass opps (opponents) anyway,” Davis said on social media. “I’m ready to fight whoever….including Floyd. That’s not trolling, them facts. I was going to do camp in Las Vegas, but now that’s over with.”

If Tank Davis leaves Mayweather promotions, it could help him get the crucial fights that he needs to take his career to the next level. We’re talking about Tank Davis fighting these type of fighters:

• Ryan Garcia
• Miguel Berchelt
• Oscar Valdez

Would Tank Davis have a chance to fight some of those fighters if he stayed with Mayweather Promotions? 

Davis’ Potential Being Wasted

While some boxing fans compare Tank Davis to Adrien Broner, another Mayweather protege, he’s much different. Unlike Broner, Tank Davis has incredible talent and is destroying everyone he faces.

Broner was never that type of fighter. When Broner was at his best, he was flawed fighters in the lower weight classes, and he had a significant size advantage over them. Davis is a far better fighter and is someone that could rule the lightweight division if Mayweather promotions were putting him in against the best.

f Mayweather’s goal in training Haney is to motivate Tank, it might work, but it could come at a high cost to him and his promotional company. If Tank moves on after his contract ends, then Mayweather will have sabotaged himself by choosing to train his rival, Haney.

Gervonta Davis = #1 Fighter With Mayweather Promotions

It’s surprising that Tank Davis has stuck it out this long with Mayweather Promotions because there are more prominent promoters out there that would potentially open doors for him. When Adrien Broner brought Tank Davis to Mayweather years ago, it gave him a gift. Unfortunately, Mayweather hasn’t put Tank in with the right opposition to take his career to the next level.

Tank Davis is easily the most talented fighter in their stable, and you could still say that even if they had Devin Haney with them. Tank is a better fighter than Haney and is better suited to mix it with the elite level guys.

Haney is more of a weaker, slower version of Mayweather after he started having hand problems during his career.

It’s thought that Tank Davis’ decision not to move his training camp to Las Vegas is a kneejerk reaction to Mayweather now spending time with WBC 135-pound champion Haney (24-0, 15 KOs).

Tank Davis To Fight In The Fall

“It’s looking like the fall,” said Gervonta Davis to WBA president Gilberto Mendoza on social media in talking about his future plans. ”

“I see myself breaking him down around the ninth or 10th round, something like that,” said Tank Davis in predicting a knockout win over Vasiliy Lomachenko.

“I see myself breaking him down. There’s not too many people out there that can stand toe-to-toe with him [Lomachenko], especially at 135. I don’t see anybody standing toe-to-toe.”

A win for Tank Davis over Lomachenko would be a tremendous shot in the arm for his career. Even just fighting Lomachenko would be a massive payday for Tank.

Unfortunately, Lomachenko isn’t in the immediate plans for Tank Davis. His promoters at Mayweather Promotions want to match him against Leo Santa Cruz this year on pay-per-view, a fight that the boxing world isn’t thrilled about.

Santa Cruz recently moved up to super featherweight in his last fight against Miguel Flores, and he looked terrible beating him. Flores is nothing special, as he’d been recently beaten by Dat Nguyen and Chris Avalos.

Montrealers looking toward the Saint Lawrence River might have gotten a big surprise. 

The Groupe de recherche et d’éducation sur les mammifères marins (GREMM) has confirmed that a humpback whale swam past Montrealup the Saint Lawrence River on Saturday. The whale was first spotted around 8:30 a.m. near Montréal-Est and by 11:00 a.m. had made it to the Jacques Cartier Bridge, according to the organization’s Facebook posts.

Earlier in the week, a whale was spotted in the vicinity of Quebec City. At the time, the GREMM stated that that was the farthest upriver a whale of that size had ever been spotted.

“There have been previous reports of minke whales and beluga whales, but never for this species,” the organization wrote in a statement.

“An adult humpback whale measures between 13 and 17 metres long and can weigh up to 40 tonnes.”

On Saturday in Montreal, an intervention team from the Réseau québécois d’urgences pour les mammifères marins (RQUMM) was on-site to “assess the animal’s condition.”

Fisheries and Oceans Canada officials are also “patrolling the area to document the situation and ensure that the 100-metre distance between vessels and the whale is respected.”

Ontario says drive-in movie theatres are clear to reopen on Sunday

Ontario is giving drive-in movie theatres the clear to reopen.

The province says existing outdoor big screens will allowed to resume business starting on Sunday.

The decision comes as the province moves forward with stages of a larger repening plan that started on May 19 when restrictions lifted on retail stores and surgeries.

 

The province says washrooms in the facilities will be operating as long as health and safety requirements are followed.

Protesters chant ‘justice for Regis’ at Toronto rally against anti-black, Indigenous racism

 

Thousands of protesters took to the streets of downtown Toronto on Saturday, chanting “justice for Regis” as they rallied in the aftermath of high-profile, police-involved deaths in both Canada and the United States.

The protest follows the death of Regis Korchinski-Paquet in Toronto on Tuesday, which is currently being probed by the province’s police watchdog. The 29-year-old fell from the balcony of a 24th-floor Toronto apartment while police were in the home.

As the demonstration moved through the city’s downtown, people shouted in support from their balconies and protesters held signs proclaiming “Blue Lives Batter, Black Lives Matter” and “We Want Answers.”  

A police officer is now facing a murder charge in the death of George Floyd, a black man caught on film pleading for air as an officer knelt on his neck.

In Toronto, protesters chanted “not another black life,” “abolish the police,” and “no justice, no peace” as they wound through the downtown streets clad in face masks to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

 A heavy police presence followed the rally, which ended at Toronto police headquarters instead of its scheduled finish at Queen’s Park.

A small group protesting COVID-19 lockdowns was gathered there on Saturday, and Not Another Black Life explained the change of plans on Instagram.

“We are not going to Queen’s Park due to white supremacy,” they wrote.

Earlier in the week, Korchinski-Paquet’s mother said that she called officers to the apartment asking them to take her daughter to the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health. She said she never thought her daughter could have ended up dead.

“A mother shouldn’t call the police for help and the result of the call is her being taken away in a body bag,” she said. “It shouldn’t happen when someone calls the police. They’re supposedly here to help.”

She added that the support of non-black demonstrators was vital to their cause. McArthur said it was good that some white people attended, but she wanted to see more people in future protests.

“I just hope that we can continue to do this and it’s not forgotten after today,” she said.

“Democracy, lawful protest is healthy and I’m fully respectful of that. With this type of protest, what I don’t want is people’s behaviour to be manifested on lies or mistruths. That is my concern,” said Saunders. “And the only people that have that truth right now are the ones who are conducting that investigation. Once that investigation is done, then its time to have that discussion on what the go-forward looks like.”

Meanwhile, police said hundreds attended a similar protest in Halifax on Saturday. No arrests were made.

“We respect the public’s right to a peaceful protest,” Staff Sgt. R. Scott MacDonald said.

“Police were on hand simply to ensure the safety of the participants and the public. We appreciate that attendees conducted themselves in a peaceful manner.”

Klaus Hardy Breslauer acted inappropriately at least 2 dozen times while teaching in Vancouver.

A high school teacher in B.C. has been suspended for less than a week after making a number of sexually explicit, rude and inappropriate comments toward students over the course of a single school year.

Klaus Hardy Breslauer cannot teach from Wednesday until Friday of this week for negative and aggressive behaviour toward students, according to the B.C. Commissioner for Teacher Regulation, including one instance in which he told exchange students “they should go back to working on rice farms.” 

Breslauer admitted to a catalog of poor behaviour over the 2017/18 school year in a consent resolution agreement posted Tuesday.

Breslauer was teaching Science 9, Science 10 and Physics 11 at the time.

Breslauer also had more than 700 racist, homophobic, sexist and transphobic memes on his work computer, some of which he created himself and shared with students.

Students also saw a photograph of Beslauer and his wife, apparently nude behind a newspaper, after the teacher posted the picture on his public Facebook page.

Breslauer resigned from the Vancouver School District in November 2018.

The branch suspended his teacher certificate for three days. His teaching licence is invalid on May 27, 28 and 29 — a time at which most in-class instruction across B.C. is still suspended due to the pandemic.
